## What happened

In July 2024, IIFL Fintech Fund, the venture arm backed by financial services group IIFL, acquired a 10% stake in Vitra.ai. The size of the cheque was not made public. The round was widely covered across the Indian business press, which read it as a mainstream financial institution taking a position in applied generative AI rather than in model building.

Vitra.ai was founded in Bengaluru in 2020 by Satvik Jagannath and Akash Nidhi P S. The company builds generative AI translation and personalisation infrastructure: [video dubbing](https://www.vitra.ai/features/video-dubbing), [image translation](https://www.vitra.ai/features/image-translation), [website translation](https://www.vitra.ai/features/website-translation) and [video personalization](https://www.vitra.ai/features/video-personalization), all running on a context-aware engine rather than word-for-word machine translation.

## Why an IIFL-backed fund

The investor mix matters more than the headline number. IIFL Fintech Fund invests where financial services meet software, and Vitra.ai's enterprise customer base is concentrated in exactly that segment: banks, insurers and other BFSI institutions that have to say the same regulated thing in a dozen languages without a compliance incident.

That is a harder problem than consumer translation. A bank's product disclosure has to carry the same meaning in Kannada as it does in English, in a brand voice the legal team has already signed off. The investment was framed as funding further development of that stack, which is the part of the business that scales into [enterprise deployments](https://www.vitra.ai/enterprise).
