> **Quick answer —** Montana's non-English insurance need is not urban. It sits on reservations where Crow, Blackfeet, Salish and Cheyenne are spoken, across distances that make any in-person service model impossible.

## Distance is the first barrier, not language

Montana is enormous and thinly populated. A claim on the Fort Peck or Crow reservation may be two hundred miles from the nearest adjuster, and connectivity is unreliable across much of the state.

Before any language question, a carrier has to answer how it serves someone who cannot reach an office and cannot reliably load a portal. Phone and prepared printed material do more work here than anything digital, which inverts the usual sequencing of a modernisation programme.

## The languages have no commercial support

Crow, Blackfeet, Salish, Northern Cheyenne and Assiniboine are all spoken in Montana, with active revitalisation efforts behind several of them. None appears on a commercial translation vendor's list. None is likely to. The economics of a general-purpose engine do not reach languages with a few thousand speakers, and no amount of procurement pressure changes that.

Most speakers are also English-speaking, so this is less an access emergency than in Minnesota or Arkansas.

It remains a service and respect question. A single asset made in partnership with a tribal language programme is the only credible version of it.

## Spanish and German are modest

Spanish is present but small by national standards.

German survives in Hutterite colonies alongside fluent English.

## An elected auditor as regulator

Insurance supervision sits with the State Auditor, an elected office also responsible for securities. It is unusual. It is also worth knowing before the first conversation, because the office's priorities are shaped by an electorate rather than by an appointment. That tends to make consumer questions land harder than they otherwise would.

## Where to start

The channel, not the language. Then Spanish.

## FAQ

**Which Indigenous languages are spoken in Montana?** Crow, Blackfeet, Salish, Northern Cheyenne and Assiniboine, with active revitalisation behind several of them. None appears on a commercial translation vendor's list.

**Is Indigenous language provision urgent in Montana?** Less than in states like Minnesota or Arkansas, since most speakers are also English-speaking. It remains a service and respect question best answered through partnership with a tribal language programme.

**Who regulates insurance in Montana?** The State Auditor, an elected office that also covers securities. It is an unusual arrangement and worth knowing before the first regulatory conversation.
