> **Quick answer —** Method statements are sequences, so step integrity matters more than fluency. One action per step, hold points stated explicitly, and any change on site has to reach every language before work resumes.[Vitra.ai Universe](https://www.vitra.ai/platform) keeps one site vocabulary across drawings, documents and talks.

## The order is the content

A method statement says what happens, in what order, with what checks between. Change the order and the document describes different work. Translation puts that at risk in a specific way. A sentence joining two actions can reorder in another language, so the crew performs them in a sequence nobody intended — the same failure as an [installation guide](https://www.vitra.ai/manufacturing/installation-guide-translation), with a worse consequence.

## What every step needs

Property

Requirement

One action per step

Not two joined by "and then"

Explicit sequence

Numbered, order preserved

Hold points named

Where work stops for a check

Plant and equipment stated

By the name used on site

Controls attached to the step

Not gathered in an annex

Who does what

Roles, unambiguous

Hold points are the ones worth protecting. A step saying work stops until an inspection is complete is a control, and a translation that renders it as advice has removed it.

Splitting combined steps in the source fixes the problem in every language at once, which is why it is worth doing before any translation starts.

## Changes on site are the real risk

Method statements get revised. Conditions change, a sequence proves impractical, a hold point moves.

The revision reaches the person who wrote it and the supervisor immediately. It reaches the crew's language version whenever somebody remembers, and in between those two moments part of the site is working to a superseded document.

Treating a revision as not complete until every language version is updated and re-briefed is the only version of this that holds. It also argues for keeping the crew-facing content short, because short content is fast to re-issue.

## Terminology comes from the site

The name a crew uses for a piece of plant is the name that belongs in the translated statement, even when it differs from the manufacturer's.

Recording those in a pinned glossary through [translation memory](https://www.vitra.ai/features/translation-memory) keeps the statement, the [RAMS](https://www.vitra.ai/construction/rams-translation) and the [induction](https://www.vitra.ai/construction/site-induction-translation) using one vocabulary.

## Running it

[Document translation](https://www.vitra.ai/features/document-translation) preserves numbering and structure, and [quality control](https://www.vitra.ai/features/quality-control) checks step count, sequence and hold points on every language version rather than a sample — because a sampled check on a sequence document tells you nothing about the steps it did not read.

## FAQ

**What is the main translation risk in a method statement?** Sequence. A sentence joining two actions can reorder in another language, so the crew performs the steps in an order nobody intended, and the document still reads correctly.

**What is a hold point and why does it matter?** A step where work stops until a check is complete. It is a control, and a translation that renders it as advice rather than an instruction has removed the control entirely.

**What happens when a method statement is revised?** The revision reaches the author and supervisor immediately and the crew's language version later, so part of the site works to a superseded document. A revision is not complete until every language is updated and re-briefed.

**Whose terminology should be used?** The site's. The name a crew actually uses for a piece of plant belongs in the translated statement even where it differs from the manufacturer's, and it should be recorded in the glossary.
