> **Quick answer —** India's banking growth is largely non-metro and non-English, yet most digital banking content ships in English and Hindi. The surfaces that matter first are transaction alerts, onboarding and grievance, and the language list should come from your own account data.[Vitra.ai Universe](https://www.vitra.ai/platform) covers Indic web, document and video content in one workflow.

## Hindi is not a national strategy

It's the most common mistake in Indian banking content, and it's usually made in good faith. Hindi plus English feels like national coverage on a slide. It leaves out most of the south and much of the east. A customer in Coimbatore or Bhubaneswar is not served by a Hindi interface, and the assumption that they are is why the numbers never move in those states.

## Where the growth actually is

Account growth has been strongest outside the metros for years, and that is precisely where English fluency is lowest and smartphone-first banking is highest. The customer opening their first digital account is more likely to need their own language than the customer who already had one.

## What to change first

Surface

Why it ranks here

Transaction SMS and alerts

The most-read bank interface by a wide margin

Onboarding and verification

Where first-time users drop out

Grievance and complaints

The customer is already unhappy

Product and rate pages

Where comparison happens

Brand campaigns

Visible, but last in terms of consequence

Most banks work that table upside down.

## Choosing the languages

Not from a population map. Look at where accounts are opened, where applications drop out, and where grievance volume is high relative to customer base. Those three usually agree, and they usually point somewhere the census ranking does not.

Two done properly beats eight at menu-label depth.

## Video, because that is how India consumes

Regional-language consumption is overwhelmingly video and audio led. The explainer you already shot can carry a new language through [dubbing](https://www.vitra.ai/features/video-dubbing) rather than a reshoot, and [document translation](https://www.vitra.ai/features/document-translation) covers the statements and terms it points to.

## Where to start

Lenders outside the banking licence have their own rules in [NBFC regional language](https://www.vitra.ai/banking/nbfc-regional-language-india). The regulatory framing is in [RBI website](https://www.vitra.ai/banking/banking-website-translation-rbi) and [RBI app](https://www.vitra.ai/banking/banking-app-localization-rbi) coverage. Take transaction alerts and the verification clip in your two strongest non-Hindi states. Alerts are templates, so it's a small change with the widest reach of anything on the list.

India is one market of several — [AI for banking](https://www.vitra.ai/banking/ai-for-banking) covers the rest.

## FAQ

**Is Hindi and English enough for an Indian bank?** Rarely. That pairing leaves out most of the south and much of the east, and it is where digital account growth is strongest. A customer in Coimbatore is not served by a Hindi interface.

**Which banking surface should Indian banks localize first?** Transaction SMS and alerts. A customer may open the app twice a month while receiving twenty messages, which makes the alert template the most-read interface the bank has.

**How should an Indian bank pick regional languages?** From account-opening concentration, application drop-out and grievance volume relative to customer base. Those three usually agree with each other and usually disagree with a population ranking.

**Why does video matter for regional language banking in India?** Because consumption is heavily video and audio led. An existing explainer can be dubbed into another language rather than reshot, which is what removed the old per-language cost barrier.
