> **Quick answer —** Most banks end up with both. AI handles volume, repetition and anything that changes often; an agency or in-market reviewer handles regulated disclosures and brand campaigns. The split is by risk and change frequency, not by content type.[Vitra.ai Universe](https://www.vitra.ai/platform) is built for that hybrid split rather than against it.

## The question is framed wrong

It gets posed as a quality comparison, which is why it never resolves. The useful question is which content justifies a human hour, given that the number of human hours is fixed. Translate everything by hand and you translate less. That's the real trade.

## The split most banks land on

Content

Approach

Why

Product and rate pages

AI, with review

Changes often, high volume

Listings and repetitive copy

AI

Same phrases repeating endlessly

Fee schedules, grievance, terms

AI draft, human review

Read by regulators

Brand campaign lines

Human, transcreation

Meaning is not the point

App strings

AI, with a glossary

Volume, and constant change

Brand lines are the clearest case for a person. A tagline that works in English often has no translation that works at all, and what you need is somebody inventing a new line for that market, which is a different job from translating.

## What changed the economics

The cost per language used to be a hard floor: a studio session for a voiceover, a translator and a proof for a brochure. That floor is what capped most banks at two or three languages. [Video dubbing](https://www.vitra.ai/features/video-dubbing) and [document translation](https://www.vitra.ai/features/document-translation) moved that floor far enough that language count stopped being the constraint. Which surfaces you cover became the constraint instead, and that's a better problem.

## Where agencies still win

In-market judgement. Whether a phrase carries an unintended connotation, whether a regulator in that country reads a term differently, whether the tone lands. No model has that context, and a bank that fires its in-market reviewers to save money usually rehires them after the first complaint.

## Where to start

The security questions behind the decision are in [AI translation in banking](https://www.vitra.ai/banking/ai-translation-in-banking). Take one content type that changes weekly and move it to an AI pipeline with a review gate. Keep your reviewers and point them at the disclosures instead. Same spend, more coverage.

Either way, the work itself is mapped in [AI for banking](https://www.vitra.ai/banking/ai-for-banking).

## FAQ

**Should banks use AI translation or a translation agency?** Most use both. AI handles volume, repetition and content that changes often, while in-market reviewers handle regulated disclosures and brand lines. The split follows risk and change frequency.

**Which bank content still needs a human translator?** Brand campaign lines above all, because a tagline often has no working translation and someone has to write a new one for that market. That is transcreation rather than translation.

**What changed the cost of adding a banking language?** The per-language floor. A voiceover once meant a studio session and a brochure meant a translator plus a proof, which capped most banks at two or three languages. Removing that floor made surface coverage the constraint instead.

**Should a bank replace its in-market reviewers with AI?** No. Their value is judgement about connotation, regulator interpretation and tone, which a model does not have. The better move is repointing them from bulk translation onto the disclosures.
